 Grown  Central and south China.
 Source  Rhizome and leaves of Coptis Chinensis Franch.
 Ingredients  Berberine, Coptisine, Worenine, Palmatine
 Pharma Effect  1) Has anti-microbial and anti-protozoan properties. 2) Has blood vessel dilation effect. 3) Can stimulate smooth muscle.
 Properties  Bitter, cold
 Channels  Heart, liver, stomach, large intestine
 Function  Clears heat, dries dampness, drains fire and relieves toxicity.
 Clinic Usage  For diarrhea due to damp-heat in the gastrointestinal system, dysenteric disorder, vomiting, high fever due to febrile disease, irritability or impaired consciousness and delirium. Can also be used for ulcers, boils and toxic swellings.

 Ingredients  Picroside I, Picroside II, Apocynin, Kutkoside, Kutkin
 Pharma Effect  Apocynin can stimulate bile secretion. It also presented flaccid astringency on ileum in mice and uterus relaxation in rabbits. Picroside II can also stimulate bile secretion in rabbits.
 Properties  Bitter, cold
