 Grown  South and central China.
 Source  Dried, ripe fruits of Quisqualis indica L.
 Ingredients  Quisqualic acid, Glutamic acid, Serine
 Pharma Effect  1) The herbal extract can paralyze roundworms in pigs. 2) Hypodermic injection of the herbal extract showed a sedative, muscle-relaxation effect in mice. 3) Active ingredient Quisqualic acid can stimulate motor nerves.
 Properties  Sweet, warm
 Channels  Spleen, stomach
 Function  Reduces food accumulation and strengthens spleen.
 Clinic Usage  For abdominal pain due to roundworms, infantile malnutrition, turbid urination and five types of infantile malnutrition. This is a major herb for childhood illness.
 Cautions  Do not drink hot tea while taking this herb. Overdose can cause regurgitation, dizziness and vomiting.
 Dosage  9~12g for decoctions, 6~9g of the seeds for pills or powders.
 Storage  Store in a dry, well-ventilated place. Protect from mold and worm infestation.
